During the month of February, two victims have been identified by LVMPD Financial Crimes detectives as being victims of a fraud reference a lottery ticket. These victims were approached by a suspect who claimed to have a winning lottery ticket and needed legal assistance to cash it. The victims in these instances were Hispanic females over the age of 50, who were approached by two suspects. The male and female team are described as Hispanics between the ages of 35 and 45 years-old driving a black 4-door sedan.
The female would approach the victim speaking in Spanish and claiming she had a winning lottery ticket but was unable to cash it due to her legal status in the country. The male suspect would then approach them and offer a solution by directing them where to go. The victim would then be directed into the male suspect’s car, with the female suspect getting in with them to make the victim feel more comfortable. Once inside the black 4-door sedan, the suspects call an individual who verifies the lottery ticket is real and can be cashed for a million dollars. The person on the phone also provides legal assistance and requests a certain amount of money to assist in claiming the prize money. The suspects’ then drive the victim to withdraw money from an ATM or bank in the area. Upon receiving the money, the victim is then asked to go inside a business or a residence to get the items that will complete the business deal while suspects leave the area. These events have occurred in different areas of the Las Vegas valley and the suspects seem to be targeting Spanish speaking Hispanic females over the age of 50.
